With the iPad well on it’s way, we’re wondering just how many people are planning to get it. If the numbers from RBC/ChangeWave are accurate, RBC Capital Markets analyst Mike Abramsky predicts that the iPad might be even more popular than the first iPhone when it launched.
Their survey shows that 8% of their responders said that they would not be buying the iPad based on it’s $499 starting price, while 28% said the iPhone was too expensive.
The lack of a camera, Adobe Flash, and Multitasking aren’t impacting buyer interest drastically, according to their survey. The survey also found that the iPad will be cannibalizing Mac sales, with the 25% saying they would be delaying planned purchases of one or more Apple gadgets because of the iPad, with the MacBook being the specific example for 9% of those who participated.
They also collected data on demand for each of the models, asking which model those who had decided to get one were most interested in buying. 33% said they weren’t sure, while most people gravitated to the low and high end of the spectrum:
They also have information on the top planned uses. 68% said they would be using it more for browsing the web like a netbook than as an ebook reader. 44% said they would use it for email, and 37% said they would use it for ebooks.
