Yes with a jailbroken iPhone 4 and the download of the application My3G (3.99) you will be able to use the awesome FaceTime feature wherever you are, not restricted to Wi-Fi. Although the 3G version lacks a bit of quality compared to the Wi-Fi version but it still looks better than decent.

The Online Apple Store has revealed that new orders placed for the iPad Wi-Fi with 3G, will ship on May 7th. Apple has simultaneously begun emailing customers who pre-ordered to reassure them of their late April shipping date.

Apple stated that the demand for the Wi-Fi model has caused them to delay the international release until late May. Some unclear wording in one of Steve Jobs emails made it appear the US version of the iPad Wi-Fi+3G orders could be delayed until late May, but it appears now that it was only a misunderstanding. International pre-orders for all models begin May 10.

Yesterday we thought AT&T was making significant progress in the right direction when they said in a press release that they had worked with Sling Media to optimize the SlingPlayer for iPhone, and were then allowing it to work on their 3G network. When asked, Sling Media said the app hasn’t been changed since before and AT&T never worked with them on it.
“We didn’t change anything,” Sling Media’s John Santoro told Ars. “AT&T never discussed any specific requirements with us.”
Santoro says that the app has always been optimized to adapt the stream quality to suit network conditions. AT&T has been in talks with Sling, but they never made as much as a suggestion or gave them any requirements.
Assuming what they’ve said is true, and they have no real reason to lie about it at this point, AT&T has been caught lying to save face with their users.
AT&T has announced that it’s granting an optimized version of SlingPlayer Mobile [$29.99 - iTunes link] permission to send TV over their 3G network, something that up until now has been expressly banned under AT&T terms of service.
“Just as we’ve worked with Sling Media in this instance, we look forward to collaborating with other developers so that mobile customers can access a wider, more bandwidth-sensitive, and powerful range of applications in the future,” said Ralph de la Vega, president and CEO, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. “Collaboration with developers like Sling Media ensures that all apps are optimized for our 3G network to conserve wireless spectrum and reduce the risk that an app will cause such extreme levels of congestion that they disrupt the experience of other wireless customers. Our focus continues to be on delivering the nation’s most advanced mobile broadband experience and giving our customers the widest possible array of mobile applications.”
The updated SlingPlayer Mobile will be a free update for existing users, and ends a long, winding story of controversy and constraint for US iPhone users. Whether international carriers follow AT&T’s lead and allow the app to operate on their networks as well, of course, remains to be seen.

Many iPhone owners will tell you that the biggest problem with the device is the AT&T network. The network has a frequent habit of dropping calls and lacking 3G coverage in all but the largest cities. The poor network quality has led many iPhone users to complain about missing features like MMS and the inability to stream video over 3G.
AT&T is reportedly trying to remedy the issues on its network by rolling out upgrades to its 850MHz spectrum earlier in some areas. The faster roll out will mean better 3G coverage in major cities, but will leave those of us in more rural areas with the same shoddy network.
The first city to get 850MHz is Atlanta, which was upgraded this week. Customers in the city will be served by 850 more cellular towers that will operate with the existing 1900MHz towers. CNET also reports that upgrades are underway in the San Francisco area as well.

Griffin makes quite a few different types of iPhone 3G cases, giving us lots of choice and diversity. They have sport cases, silicon cases, utility cases, and the Elan Form Chrome. The latter e is a shiny leather/polycarbonate hybrid case that’ll make your iPhone shine.

This case is made up of a thin layer of a thin leather on the outside, while the inside is a hard, glossy black polycarbonate shell. It comes apart at the bottom, allowing you to slide your iPhone 3G up into it. Like pretty much all cases, all the ports you need to get at are accessible without removing the case. Since the bottom part of the case can slide off, you can dock your phone without removing the whole thing, a welcome feature. I’m coming to see the appeal of this more and more after testing out different cases. Taking a whole case off to put the iPhone in any form of dock can be annoying. This simplifies things quite a bit. As far as sliding the iPhone in, it is a nice snug fit and you don’t have to push too hard. I hate applying a lot of pressure to get into a case. Not an issue here. Griffin also sends you a cleaning cloth and stick-on screen protector with the case.

The feature that stands out about this case most is in the name: Chrome! All around the edge on the front face, around the camera hole, dock connector, volume buttons, and headphone jack and sleep button, chrome dominates. The coolest looking part is when you’re looking at the screen. The chrome all around really makes it look expensive.

The hard, thin leather on the back is a nice feature. It would probably be a lot more resistant to tearing than a softer, thicker leather. Overall though, it feels very similar to a polycarbonate case. This case is a little bit more expensive than other polycarbonate cases, I’m assuming because of the chrome and leather. So if you’re willing to spend a little more for looks and a better feel, this case is a good option.
TIP: The Griffin Elan Chrome case may seem a little loose and cheap on the iphone, and the bottom piece may not lock tight enough. If your case fits like this, you can put the cleaning cloth in between the iphone and the back of the case. This will secure the iphone giving it a more snug fit. As for the bottom being too loose, use a piece of double stick scotch tape and stick it on the lip of the bottom piece then slide the case together. This will give the case a very secure fit.

Yesterday, a video surfaced that is demonstrating the latest version of Qik for the iPhone, and by the latest I mean the AdHoc version and not a jailbroken version.

That video, which is 6 minutes and 23 seconds long begins by showing off the AdHoc version of Qik. It begins by going over some of the features which include the ability to mute audio, turn off chat, set the video to private, edit the video details (while streaming) as well as how you can share your video on sites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Additionally, it was also noted that Qik has a resolution of 384×288 and streams at 10 or 15 frames per second.

Overall, this video is really just a teaser for what is hopefully an App Store release of Qik, but in reality it seems to be an effort to bring attention to the denial and hope that AT&T and Apple change their minds. The effort to attract attention comes in the form of a Twitition, which you can sign (if you choose) by clicking here.

Anyway, in my opinion, the most exciting part of the video came in at around the 4:15 minute mark. It turns out that the video was being filmed with an external accessory for the iPhone 3GS.

Unfortunately the accessory is a yet-to-be-released accessory that does not even seem to have a name yet. That said, this nameless product appears to make the quality of the video recording as well as sound recording on the iPhone 3GS much nicer.

Some of the features in regards to the add-on accessory include a .5x wide angle lens and front facing monster mic with headphone attachment. It was noted that it would also allow other items to be attached for better performance, items such as filters, better lenses and microphones.

Unfortunately there was not any mention as to how much this will cost. Additionally, as for availability, that was simply noted as being “in the near future.” That said, it looks like something that would be fun to play with.

The third iPhone to be released since the first was launched in the U.S. in 2007, Apple claims the iPhone 3G S is faster and more powerful than the current iPhone 3G. Although it retains an identical form factor and design, the iPhone 3G S has some nifty new features. Here are 10 of the best:

1. It’s faster

Apple launched the iPhone 3G S by announcing it has a faster processor, more memory and “snappier performance”. Although the iPhone 3G is no slouch, it can be a little sluggish when opening and closing applications. If Apple’s demo videos are anything to go by, the iPhone 3G S will be a much zippier smartphone.

2. It has more memory

Apple will sell two models of the iPhone 3G S: 16GB and 32GB. There original iPhone came with 4GB, 8GB or 16GB of storage.

3. Video recording

Wow! A smartphone in 2009 that can record video? No way! Apple critics will point to the fact that the iPhone 3G can’t record video as an example of a phone that lacks some basic features, but for potential iPhone owners the addition of video recording is a real plus.

4. Improved camera

The iPhone 3G S has a 3-megapixel camera with autofocus, compared with the iPhone 3G’s 2-megapixel, non-autofocus camera. It still lacks a flash, but the increased megapixel count should slightly improve photos and tapping an area on the screen to focus on is a cool feature that should make mobile photography easier.

5. You can talk to it

The iPhone 3G S introduces what Apple calls Voice Control, a voice recognition feature that allows you to make a call and play music by speaking. Voice Control can find any entry in your contacts list, and users simply have to say a name or phone number to make a call. For music, you can ask what song is playing and hear the iPhone 3G S answer, tell it to play your favourite album, or play similar tracks to the current one.

6. It has a built-in compass

A built-in digital compass is another new feature of the iPhone 3G S. We aren’t sure exactly how often anyone would use this as a standalone app, but when combined with Google Maps, the compass will rotate maps to always match the direction you’re facing. Now that is pretty cool.

7. Internet tethering

The iPhone 3G S can now be used as a modem, connecting to a Mac or PC via USB or Bluetooth. Although AT&T in the US won’t be supporting this feature, Optus is one Australian telco that has confirmed it will be. Telstra and Vodafone are yet to announce whether they will offer tethering capability.

8. Accessibility features

Apple has included a number of features that help people with disabilities use the iPhone 3G S. These include Apple’s VoiceOver function, which reads aloud what is on the screen, a zoom function that magnifies up to five times, and a white on black display option that provides increased contrast.

9. Nike+ iPod integration

Previously only available for selected iPod nano models, Apple’s Nike + iPod is a fitness system that involves a Nike shoe communicating wirelessly with an iPod. The iPhone 3G S will be compatible with the system, which displays real time walking or running statistics.

10. New headphones

The iPhone 3G S will include Apple’s remote headphones in the sales package. The new headphones have a multi-button remote and volume control keys, as well as a microphone to handle voice calls.
