iPhone 5 defect could delay release until 2012

Multiple sources who have ties with Apple’s manufacturing partners, have reported that the company is facing a continued design and production delay that more than likely will push back the release of the teardrop iPhone 5 well into 2012.
According to one publication:

A defect has presented in some iPhone 5 touch panels produced by Wintek which may affect the ability to meet initial shipment targets for the launch which is expected in October, according to iPhone supply chain makers. In response, Wintek simply indicated that all of its products are being delivered on schedule.

The publication goes on to describe the “delayed bubble” defect which the source warns is difficult to avoid if it isn’t detected early on during the process of laminating touch panels.

It sure is not unheard of for Apple to face manufacturing difficulties, remember white iPhone 4? It took the company eight months to figure out how to make it work so that light leakage doesn’t degrade camera performance. Also, the antenna issue on the latest iPhone 4. Let’s not forget about the comment, “Apple’s products are very difficult to make” and that’s from Terry Gou, the CEO of Apple’s long-time contract manufacturer Hon Hai Precision Industry, also known as Foxconn.

So this could all be the surprise attack that new CEO Tim Cook is scheming up, maybe he is baiting all these rumors into the iPhone blogosphere and then he is going to announce an amazing totally redesigned iPhone 5…. Let’s all cross our fingers for that one, but don’t hold your breath.
