It seems iPhone 3.1 users, mostly iPhone 3G users from what we can make out, are experiencing random freezes and complete shutdowns of their iPhones, and nothing, not reboots, not restores are fixing it.
We did hear a few accounts of freezes during the 3.1 beta on all versions of the iPhone, but that’s the point of betas — to identify and fix bugs before the software goes primetime. Seemingly random, intermittent bugs, however, can be some of the toughest to figure out, especially for users, so if you’re suffering from randomly freezing or shutting-down iPhones, let us know which device, and any pertinent details like clean 3.1 install, restore from backup, etc. and if you’ve stumbled onto any fixes of the more-than-temporary variety, please do share in the comment box so we can submit the results to the Apple Corp.

Random shutoff here. I have tried all the usualy tricks, to no avail.
Thus far I have been very happy with my iphone despite incomplete updates and misc service issues associated with at&t. This most recent update… 3.1 is about to drive me away from apple altogether. My biggest complaint is that I can’t revert to os 3.0.1 until the issues with 3.1 are resolved without jail-breaking my iphone. There are several iphones in our house and I was the first to update. Luckily I didn’t have time to complete everyones phone the night I did mine. I have had numerous freezes (10+ minutes each) that just required me to wait until the phone decided to work again. Each time the hard reset didn’t even seem responsive. I have restored with this version twice. After the last crash (#5) I decided to restore to an earlier version. Unfortunately this “feature” is disabled in itunes. What are my options? This isn’t just a handheld computer it is also a phone… a phone that doesn’t work when it is needed.
apple.. I am disappointed. This OS reminds me of Windows ME and Vista. Wait until it is complete or at the very least give users the ability to roll back if the current version doesn’t work very well for them.
My iphone freezes too and often, It is a pain that I need to keep pushing the buttons on it to make it work. If it wasn’t for the music on it, I would change phones!.
im having iphone 3gs 3.1.3 software, original
