Kaufman Bros. analyst Shaw Wu says he heard from someone supplying parts for the Apple tablet that the device’s launch may be delayed to June. Previous rumors said the device might launch as soon as March, but this source says it may be delayed due to “minor issues” with battery life and durability. The source also commented on the device itself, describing it as being a cross between a Mac and iPod touch, but leaning heavily toward iPod touch.
From our understanding, it is not intended to replace a Mac but be somewhat of a ‘super’ iPod touch where video, gaming, Web browsing, e-books and the ability to run multiple apps would be enhanced with the much larger screen,” the analyst wrote.
The tablet is expected to retail for around $999, much of which is to counter the cost of the expensive $100 touchscreen component. Wu suspects it will contain an ARM-based processor due to it’s close relation to the iPod touch.
