Last week an Apple filed Apple patent application was published. It was described how the iOS device could actually recognize suspicious behavior and could reveal unauthorized usage of that device. Particularly- voice, facial or heartbeat recognition could be used to confirm whether or not the current user is authorized to do so. If the iOS device suspects unauthorized usage, it will deactivate that device immediately. If you dig deeper into the patent details, you will see Apple may have an alternative motive……hint, Jailbreaking. Apple classifies jailbreaking as unauthorized usage, therefore will be able to immediately deactivate any iOS device it recognizes as being hacked or tampered with in any way.
quote from Apple:
“An activity that can detect an unauthorized user can be any action that may indicate the electronic device is being tampered with by being, for example, hacked, jailbroken, or unlocked,” the patent continues. “For example, a sudden increase in memory usage of the electronic device can indicate that a hacking program is being run and that an unauthorized user may be using the electronic device.”
So to be blunt, Steve Jobs is fed up with people not using the Apple devices the way he intended them to be used. He is against altering or configuring Apple devices in any way. If Mr Jobs thinks you are not using your Apple device the way he intended it to be used (ie hacking or jailbreaking) he will deactivate it and it will become a very expensive paperweight and all within LEGAL terms.
This will be interesting to see where this all goes…….. leave a comment on how you feel about this.
