A former Engadget editor has revealed some information on what could possibly be the next generation iPhone 5. This info is contradicting to all the other iPhone 5 rumors that has came about so far.
According to the reports, the new iPhone 5 is going to be completely redesigned and resembles the iPod Touch more than the iPhone 4. It will be thinner and have a “teardrop” shape like the Macbook Air, this is a shape Apple is taking ownership of with their latest devices. The home button will be used as a button and a gesture area, the screen will occupy the entire front of the phone with almost no bezel at all. The screen size is expected to be 3.7 inches and keep the same resolution, which would allow Apple to keep the same DPI within the Retina display moniker at 312dpi. There is also some hints on an inductive charging and syncing system, which would allow the iPhone 5 to charge and sync by just laying it down on a mat of some kind.
Again this rumor is contradicting every rumor from all the other “reliable” sources. The latest rumor from a reliable source was the one from Reuters, which reported the iPhone 5 will carry the same form factor, shape and size as the iPhone 4. The only thing different on the external area of the phone was the antenna placement, other than that it was all internal improvements similar to that with the iPhone 3G to 3GS transition. Macrumors is saying this is untrue, I hope so.
My opinion is, I hope they do not change the form factor to resemble an iPod Touch, that is way too small for a phone. A phone gets used in an entirely different way than an iPod. The iPod is mainly in a pocket or bag when both being used or not, the iPhone is fumbled from a purse, pocket or case almost every time it’s being used, minus Bluetooth users. Apple please don’t make the iPhone resemble the iPod Touch.
