Jim Dalrymple from The Loop is claiming that no hardware will be unveiled at the WWDC 2011, no iPhones, no iPads, no Macs, nothing. Why would Apple kill their annual iPhone launch?
Apple’s apparent focus on software in its WWDC announcement backs up what my own sources are saying about the annual conference. That is, expect a software show in 2011, not a hardware event.
Apple has a pattern of of iPods in September, iPhone in June, iPad in March and major Mac upgrades in October. The tradition is coming to an end in 2011. The WWDC 2011 invitation clearly says Apple will preview the next version of iOS.
Apple is supposed to release a white version of the iPhone 4 in April 2011, this release could possibly be what is causing Apple to delay the release this year, along with possible parts shortages caused from the disasters in Japan. It wouldn’t make sense for Apple to release a Verizon iPhone in Feb. and a white iPhone in April then a whole new device in June. They would need to give it some time for the supplies to diminish.
When will iPhone 5 come? The well-sourced Macotakara.jp is claiming that the iPhone 5 has not even hit the full production stage yet and will not go into mass production until late 2011 for a 2012 launch. This would be about a full year after the Verizon iPhone 4 was launched. It also claims that that the new aluminum casing is taking longer to produce and more extensive testing with signal strength this go around. A Chinese website is also claiming that the new iPhone 5 will not go into production until Q3 of this year.
