Apple asked Best Buy to hold iPad 2 stock for upcoming promotion

Best Buy is not in any trouble with Apple as earlier thought. A Best Buy employee assumed that the reason Apple instructed Best Buy to hold and not sell the iPad 2 was because of poor Apple sales ethics. That was all rumor and speculation. The truth is, yes Apple did tell Best Buy to hold off on selling the iPad 2 but it was not because of any wrong doing. This statement from Best Buy was released to BGR:

“Best Buy continues to receive iPad 2 inventory from Apple on a regular basis. As we’ve said previously, we are fulfilling customer reservations first. Our stores have been asked to temporarily hold non-reserved iPad 2 inventory for an upcoming promotion. This is a customary practice for us when there are supply constraints. Best Buy enjoys a great partnership with Apple, and we’re delighted by customer response to iPad 2.”

Tim Cook, acting CEO while Jobs is out, even chimed in and sent an email denying any knowledge of negative issues between Best Buy and Apple.
