Apple removes Mac OS X 10.7.3 download due to many bugs

Apple recently released the update OS X 10.7.3 and it has been a pain in the you know what for most. There have been major bugs and crashing application issues. Apple has decided that the best thing to do is remove the OS X 10.7.3 download and offer a combined update instead. The new combined update is not affected at all and works very smoothly.

Users who installed the client 10.7.3 download will need to manually download the combined update from Apple’s website.

Robin Burrowes, Xbox Live Veteran Hired By Apple for App Store Marketing

Apple recently hired the person that formerly was in charge of Xbox Live marketing in the EMEA region, Mr Robin Burrowes. Burrowes left Microsoft for Apple and is now in charge of the App Store marketing for iTunes Europe. Before Burrowes joined Apple, he was involved with Microsoft’s MSN Online operation as the event marketing manager, British retail chain HMV as their promotions manager and the brand marketing manager for Tennent Caledonian Breweries.

This could possibly mean that Apple will be expanding their iTunes gaming initiatives in Europe as the iPhone sales are booming around the world.

Mac OS 10.7.3 released by Apple with Safari 5.1.3

Apple released an update for the Mac Operating system and also an update to Safari as well. Mac OS 10.7.3 was released along side Safari 5.1.3 available for download now.

Updating your system

You should back up your system before installation; you can use Time Machine.

Do not interrupt the installation process once you have started to update your system. You may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modiﬁcations installed, or if you’ve modiﬁed the operating system through other means.

Choose Software Update from the Apple () menu to check for the latest Apple software via the Internet, including this update.

Other software updates available for your computer may appear, which you should install. Note that an update’s size may vary from computer-to-computer when installed using Software Update. Also, some updates must be installed prior to others, so you should run Software Update until Software Updates states “Your software is up to date”.

You can manually download the update installer. This is a useful option when you need to update multiple computers but only want to download the update once. These versions of the standalone installers are available from Apple Support Downloads.

The Next iPod Nano Will Be Released In March – April And Also Have A Camera

The next iPod Nano is rumored to be equipped with a camera on the back with an accompanying hole on the clip. Apple.Pro released pictures of what could possibly be the new iPod Nano with the camera while keeping the same design and size as the current iPod Nano. There are rumors floating around that Apple ran into a problem with shutter/overexposure in the 1.3 MP camera and they expect a March or April release.

NFC coming on upcoming iPhone 5

iPhone 5 rumors are brewing about the design of the new iPhone and also the software capabilities such as NFC (Near Field Communication) which allows your iPhone to be scanned by a compatible machine and charged like a credit card. (This sounds like a field day for hackers)

Apple iOS developers are “heavy into NFC” in the future iPhones.

Ed McLaughlin, of MasterCard, had a discussion with Fast Company that went as follows:

…when asked to give an estimate for when smartphone payments would become commonplace (in other words, would 2012 be the year of NFC or contactless tech?), McLaughlin demurred–and may have dropped a hint about Apple’s future in the industry.

“The timeline is always as rapid as it makes sense for consumers,” he says. “That’s a combination of having a critical mass of the merchants, which is what you’re seeing right now, and getting devices into the hands of consumers. I don’t know of a handset manufacturer that isn’t in process of making sure their stuff is PayPass ready.”

So that would include Apple then?

“Um, there are…like I say, [I don't know of] any handset maker out there,” McLaughlin says. “Now, when we have discussions with our partners, and they ask us not to disclose them, we don’t.”

Apple, of course, has the magical ability to transform whole industries. No one paid for music digitally before Apple unveiled iTunes; virtually no one listened to MP3 players, or carried smartphones, or played with tablets before Apple entered the markets. (And we have good reason to believe they are angling into wireless payment territory.) I asked whether the contactless payments industry needs Apple to hit critical mass.

“Well, anytime someone with a major base moves forward, it advances what you’re doing. So of course,” McLaughlin says.

AT&T activated 7.6 million iPhones in the last quarter of 2011

AT&T reported that they activated 7.6 million iPhones in the last quarter of 2011 alone. It was the best ever quarter for sales of the iPhone on the network. Luckily for the iPhone 4S launch, it helped the carrier overcome a big net loss, $6.7 billion or $1.12 per share. This was due to the $4 million fee for the failed merger with T-Mobile.

Total revenue for the quarter was $33 billion, a 3.6% increase from a year ago. Exceptional iPhone sales helped out to achieve the lower operating margins. CEO Randall Stephenson said share repurchases due “in short order.” AT&T also made noted they added 700,000 square miles of 3G last year. 80% of all mobile broadband is on the enhanced backhaul that supports 3G HSPA+ speeds.

Apple is reporting its best financial quarter ever

Apple announced their financial results for the fourth quarter 2011 and the first quarter of 2012. Apple posted a revenue of $46.33 Billion and a quarterly profit of $13 Billion.
Gross margin was 45% compared to 39% a year ago in the same quarter. International sales accounted for 58% of the quarters revenue which is an increase from last year.

Apple reportedly shipped over 5.2 million Macintosh computers in one quarter alone, thats an annual increase of 26%.
iPhone sales this quarter were increased 128% with total sale of over 37 million devices.
The iPod however did drop in total sales for the quarter compared to a year ago. Apple sole 15 million iPods which was a 21% decrease.
The iPad sales were increased 111% with a sale of over 15 million iPads.

“We’re thrilled with our outstanding results and record-breaking sales of iPhones, iPads and Macs,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “Apple’s momentum is incredibly strong, and we have some amazing new products in the pipeline.”

- App Store is “incredible successful” – 550,000 apps total, 170,000 iPad apps.
- $4 billion to developers cumulatively, $700 million in december quarter.
- $6.1 billion for retail, large growth for iPhone, iPad and Mac sales.

- 1.1 million Macs sold vs 851,000 year-over-year.

iPhone 5 Rumors: A Foxconn employee says iPhone 5 is launching this Summer

President Obama said at the State of the Union 2012 speech that America needs to support anyone who aspires to be the next Steve Jobs

Tim Cook congratulates Apple employees for a great Holiday quarter

iPhone 5 news: 13-megapixel camera,CMOS image sensor with HDR Video for the ultra thin iPhone 5

The iPhone 5 is going to be thinner and lighter with a 13 megapixel and estimated to have a 4 inch screen. Apple will have to redesign the entire camera system for the thinner iPhone 5. Sony has a brand-new back-illuminated CMOS image sensor in the works that could be a natural fit for a next-generation iPhone.

This image sensor layers the pixel section containing formations of back-illuminated structure pixels onto chips containing the circuit section for signal processing, which is in place of supporting substrates for conventional back-illuminated CMOS image sensors. This structure achieves further enhancement in image quality, superior functionalities and a more compact size that will lead to enhanced camera evolution.

The new iPhone 5 will have a HDR Movie feature that allows the camera to combine two different exposures simultaneously. See the video clip below:
