Sprint finally started carrying the Apple iPhone when the iPhone 4S was released. Since then Sprint customers have been complaining about slow iPhone data speeds. PCMag.com is reporting on this issue and says that Sprint has issued a statement on the issue.

“As always, Sprint is carefully monitoring the performance of the 3G network. We are looking into a small number of reports of slow data speeds when using the iPhone 4S, however there are also reports showing that Sprint’s network is the fastest, such as the Gizmodo report that came out earlier today. Speed tests represent a moment in time and are subject to many variables including weather, time of day, device, and proximity to a tower. Sprint will continue to monitor the feedback we are getting from our customers and will investigate and resolve any issues that may arise,” the company said in a statement.

PCMag.com is noting that Sprint has already been labeled as having the slowest real world 3G speeds of the three iPhone carriers in the United States.

So if your trying to choose which carrier to go with when you purchase your iPhone, you may want to only consider Verizon or AT&T.

Slashgear compared the new Apple iPhone 4S running iOS 5 with an incredible 800MHz dual core processor against the Samsung Galaxy S ll with Android running a 1.5 GHz dial core processor. It looks like despite the numbers, the iPhone 4S is the faster phone. Skip to 4:39 in the video to see the comparison……

“…from initial results the iPhone 4S performs quite well, I’m sure everyone expected that as the original held its own pretty well too. One of the fastest processors around currently, the 1.5 GHz Qualcomm in the Galaxy S II performs very well but is just barely by a hair beat by the new A5 dual-core iPhone 4S in most tests. We could argue about this all day, or try other sites but when it really comes down to it iOS is highly efficient — not to mention many many websites are designed with iOS in mind.”

The Verge:

“The iPhone 4S is a great device for some, but what if you’re thinking of upgrading from an iPhone 4? That’s a tougher call. The phone is faster, to be sure, and has an amazing camera. And of course, you can’t get Siri unless you have a 4S… but I just don’t know if any of those reasons are compelling enough to convince previous buyers to upgrade. The concept is a particularly hard sell for Verizon customers. The gap between this year’s model and last year’s model isn’t as wide as Apple would probably like. For this review, I returned to the iPhone after a fairly long period of using and testing other devices. Spending a week with Apple’s newest phone, I’m reminded again of just what makes the company’s products so special. It’s not specs, services, or apps. This phone is not perfect. Certainly it can be improved. But there is something here, beyond the screen and CPU, beyond iCloud, something under the surface. Some intangible spark. Is this the best phone ever made? That’s debatable. But I can tell you this: the iPhone 4S is pretty damn cool.”

New York Times:

Android phones seem to come out every Tuesday at 3:45 p.m. Apple updates iOS and the iPhone only once a year. So Apple had a lot of catching up to do, even some leapfrogging. There are some rough spots here and there; for example, every now and then the 4S’s camera app gets stuck on its startup screen. And while the battery still gets you through one full day, standby time is shorter than before (200 hours versus 300). But over all, Apple has done an excellent job. The question isn’t what’s in a name — it’s what’s in a phone. And the answer is: “A lot of amazing technology. And some of it feels like magic.”

TechCrunch:

“Leading up to last week’s event, like everyone else, I kept reading the rumors about a new iPhone with a larger screen and completely different form factor. Quite frankly, I was hoping they were wrong. (For the record, I stated that I heard the screen size rumor was wrong weeks ago.) The iPhone 4′s design is the pinnacle of smartphone design in my opinion. I simply could not imagine how they could alter it to make it better. Even making it thinner would mean that it wouldn’t fit as nicely in your hands for taking pictures. Android fanboys are going to love that statement. I’m happy that Apple decided not to change the form factor even though they had to know there would be some backlash from a certain segment of the population (read: idiots). Instead, Apple focused on the other thing they do best: refining already great products to make them better. The iPhone 4 was a great product. The best smartphone ever made. Now it cedes that title to the iPhone 4S”

Macworld:

In the end, the iPhone 4S follows Apple’s recent trajectory of iPhone releases: It’s an object of some appeal to people who last upgraded their phones a year ago, and over the next year a great many of them will find it worthwhile to upgrade to the iPhone 4S. But to all those people who’ve been hanging on to their iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS, the wait is over: It’s time to upgrade without any hesitation whatsoever. The iPhone 4S has speed, a great camera, some cool voice-recognition features, and the same beautiful industrial design that was introduced in the iPhone 4. It’s destined to be immensely popular. The S, in this case, seems to stand for “sure thing.”

USA Today:

Apple concedes that Siri isn’t a finished product; she is in beta. But even with her blemishes, Siri is pretty darn cool. And she helps make the iPhone 4S pretty darn cool, too.
The bottom line
•Pro. Siri, good camera, iOS 5, iCloud, half-million apps. Snappy. World phone.
•Con. No LTE version. Photo Stream glitch.

SlashGear:

“Wisely resisting the urge to change design for the sake of change, Apple has focused its attention where it will count the most: creating a longer-lasting smartphone that takes better photos, runs apps more smoothly and helps people efficiently manage their mobile lives whether they’re within cable’s reach of their home or office or otherwise. Meanwhile, Siri proves that the company still has what it takes to deliver game-changing functionality. There will undoubtedly be smartphones with faster processors, or more megapixels to their cameras, or high-speed 4G connectivity, or bigger, better resolution displays, but it’s difficult to imagine any of them competing with the joined-up ecosystem Apple now offers. Challenging the iPhone isn’t just about creating one single, better smartphone, but a portfolio of consistent products and services. The iPhone 4S may look the same as before, but it arguably represents just as much of a shift in the industry as the original iPhone ever did.”

Gogo Navigator is an awesome navigation app for the iPhone. It supports real-time, turn by turn navigation throughout the United States and Canada. The price point is also awesome when compared to other competitors like Navigon and Tom Tom, the Gogo Navigator has a price point of just $29.99. I was using Navigon and was impressed with it’s interface and functionality but the price was nearly double that of Gogo Navigator and the Gogo Navigator app performed just as well in my testing. The Gogo Navigator app can switch between a 3D and map view of the road and get turn-by-turn directions. It also interfaces with Google search to find points of interest nearby, has text-to-speech functionality and also an in app purchase feature “Live Traffic” which also let’s you know the traffic situation along your route. A big plus for the Gogo Navigator is it uses native maps for navigation. Regardless whether you have a signal or not, you can still get turn by turn directions, this is a major plus when traveling because of the signal fluctuation that usually occurs. You also have the features you’d expect from a good GPS app like favorites and places of interest (POI). Gogo Navigator is currently available in the app store and is a great deal for a decent GPS app.

The Griffin Survivor is part of Griffin’s new Armored series of tough cases, which also includes the Explorer and Tracker cases, all three are compatible with the AT&T and Verizon iPhone 4. The Survivor is one tough case, it was tested and passed both US and UK military standards. The Griffin Survivor case protects your iPhone 4 from drops, shock, vibration, sand , dust, wind and rain.

The Survivor is a bulky case just as most ultra-protective cases are for the iPhone, it is designed to be bulky in order to provide the utmost protection for the brittle iPhone 4. The Survivor case is similar to the Otterbox defender case which are both designed with a hard, shatter-resistant polycarbonate frame, a very thick shock absorbing silicone and a built in screen protector. The Survivors outer silicone is much more durable and thicker than the Otterbox Defender which in my opinion would protect the iPhone 4 better if the phone should take a plunge to the floor.

The Survivors built in screen protector is anti-glare so there is no watermarking or rainbow effect on the screen, but it does make the Retina Display a little grainy, but nothing unbearable. The outer screen protector is smooth to the touch and easy to navigate and slide your finger around. However, the integrated screen protector reduced the sensitivity of the touchscreen more than the Otterbox Defender did in our tests. Another problem we ran into with the integrated screen protection was when we tested it with a white iPhone 4 with no screen protector installed, the integrated plastic film that covers the proximity sensor does NOT allow it to work properly. The screen stayed on during calls allowing the cheek to hit the mute and speaker buttons on the screen. In fact even when we were on a call, we covered the proximity sensor with a finger and the screen remained on. The only way we got around this problem was to either cut out a hole in the plastic over the proximity sensor or to remove the entire one piece plastic screen protection which we did and the proximity sensor then worked perfectly.

Now onto the buttons and access points. Because the Griffin Survivor is water resistant, all of the ports are covered and protected with the built in plugs that flip out when you need to access them. The home button, power/sleep and volume buttons all have great feedback and responds very well when pressed. The Camera flap on the other hand is annoying, you have to hold it out of the way while taking a photo or else it will fold over and block the view finder. In my opinion this needs to be redesigned with a way to leave the flap open while using the camera either with a snap or tuck feature.

Onto the belt clip. It seems as if Griffin focused all of their time with design of the case itself and skimped on the belt clip. The clip holds the case pretty good in normal situations, but if you are running, cycling or any other outdoor rugged activity I would not trust the clip to secure the iPhone. We tested the iPhone 4 in the Griffin Survivor when running and the iPhone worked its way out and fell to the ground. Of course the good thing is, the actual case is built like a tank so of course no damage occurred to the phone. In our opinion, the clip is in need for improvements and needs to reflect the durability of the case it is trying to secure.

The Griffin Survivor is by far the toughest case we have ever tested and possibly the most durable and toughest case on the market today for the iPhone 4. When your iPhone is secured in the Griffin Survivor you can rest assured it is well protected. The design of the Survivor case is awesome and has the look that the iPhone is wrapped in armor. The silicone is very tough and grainy so it is not a lint catcher if you choose to carry it in your pocket instead of using the included belt clip.

Here are our results:

Pros:

1) Great Protection/ toughest case on the market
2) Allows for a better grip on the iPhone
3) Tough military look and feel
4) Carry your iPhone 4 with 100% confidence that it won’t get damaged

Cons:

1) Camera flap is annoying
2) Proximity sensor issues with white iPhone 4 only
3) flimsy belt clip

The Griffin Survivor is highly recommended to those looking for a durable case to protect your iPhone 4. If you have the black iPhone 4, not using the belt clip and not taking a ton of pictures I think you will be totally satisfied with this case. This case gets an A++ for the protection it offers.
Here at T.i.A. we do a lot of case reviews mainly from the popular mass produced case companies, they are for the most part low quality, plastic cases. This is a review of the EXOvault brand of iPhone case. EXOvault is a name you may not of heard of before, but if you want to be in a class of the elite when it comes to a case for your iPhone, then I suggest you get familiar with them. The cases are designed and created in Brooklyn, New York by artist Amelia Biewald and Jonathan Schipper. They make a point to express that they’re interested in producing a low-volume, high-quality product that will not lose it’s intensity and uniqueness.

We reviewed the EXO8 model of the EXOvault lineup, it is created from a solid piece of billet aluminum giving it a square ultra modern look. The EXO8 is an eye catching case, people constantly mistake it for another type of phone because the EXO8 actually changes the look of the iPhone 4 rather than just looking like a protective case.

The front of the case has a perfect cutout for the screen, and two cutouts that perfectly allow normal function for the proximity sensor, speaker and front facing camera. I found that when swiping the screen from page to page and moving apps around, the screen cutout did not get in the way, it was real smooth as if there was no case on at all.

The back of the case is a solid piece of aluminum smooth to the touch, the camera and flash is neatly left exposed. I had no issues with the quality of pictures with and without the flash when the iPhone was in the case. The whole assembly is also ridiculously light, adding nearly nothing to the weight of the iPhone.

The top of the EXO8 is open to allow for access to most aftermarket headphones, the bottom of the case is cut out proportionally allowing for most styles of charging cables. You will not be able to use the standard dock for the iPhone when in the EXO8 case but removing the iPhone 4 is simple and painless.

The side of the case is completely open on both sides, allowing for easy access to the volume controls, mute switch and sim card if you needed to access it. Even with the sides of the case open the “death grip” associated with the iPhone 4 was not an issue. It is designed in such a way that there is just enough case to prevent the hands from making full contact with the antenna.

The hinge work is great, nice and smooth, you won’t even feel like it is a hinge style case until you have to remove it, it is very solid. The EXO8 is a magnetic locking mechanism that is extremely effective. During our testing of the EXO8 the case never opened unexpectedly, the magnets are VERY strong.

The inside of the EXO8 is smooth and lined with a material that prevents any metal on metal or metal on glass, the case is well thought out and designed with a tremendous attention to detail.

We tested the EXO8 with the white iPhone 4 and an anti-glare screen protector installed, the fit was perfect with absolutely no complaints.

The quality of the EXO8 case is superb, the fit and finish and attention to detail is second to none. The only issue we had with the case was a reduction in signal strength. This was only a problem when I was in a low signal area, it would drop a two bar 3G signal to one bar and a one bar 3G signal to edge and “searching”. In a full strength area there was no issue at all. 90% of the time i’m in a full signal area so the case worked perfect for me, but for those of you barely getting a signal or have spotty coverage, you may notice reception problems.

While my case was the raw aluminum style, they do also make the EXO8 in black, gray, bronze or brass; the last of which will run you a tad more than the standard $115.

Be sure to check out EXOvault’s entire lineup on their website here

Here is a sample of wallpapers for the iPhone and iPad created by a talented and original artist. His name is William Fahey, his work is an expression of his personal pursuit of meaning through mythology, world religion and the pre-history of human mankind. Professional artists and intellectual thinking people will respect and adore this kind of character and expression.

“Meaning makes a great many things endurable – perhaps everything. No science will ever replace myth, and myth cannot be made out of any science. For it is not that ‘God’ is a myth, but that myth is the revelation of a divine life in man.”

iphone news and reviews,The Magic Mouse is undoubtedly the best mouse Apple’s made in years. They’ve taken their knowledge in trackpad finger gestures and one-piece manufacturing and made this delicate, yet sturdy, bridge-shaped mouse. The question is how it compares to other mice.

As we said in the hands-on, the mouse has one piece of clear white plastic on the top, curved, like a Dove bar. It has both right and left clicks, like the Mighty Mouse, but differentiates itself from other mice with its touch-sensitive scrolling and two-fingered gestures. That’s the big selling feature (other than the fact that it is a beautiful looking mouse).

As a Mouse

The Magic Mouse is a very, very pretty mouse—something you wouldn’t feel like you had to hide when not in use—and looks different enough from other mice that people will ask who made it, before awkwardly mumbling a nevermind as they spot the grey Apple logo.

Compared to ergonomic mice, the Magic Mouse is really low and aerodynamic, which means it doesn’t contour to your hand and doesn’t give the sensation that the mouse is a part of your hand, like Logitech mice tend to. But it is Bluetooth, so you don’t need an extra dongle, and it’s powered by two AA batteries, which get up to four months of use per charge, according to Apple.

Physically moving the mouse and mousing is fine and smooth, since there are two plastic bars on the mouse’s underside that minimize contact with whatever surface you’re on.
Even though theres no clear delineation between right and left buttons on the mouse itself, the Magic Mouse knows to interpret a click on the left or right half appropriately (though right click needs to be activated from inside System Preferences before you can use it).

As for tracking, it’s a pretty standard laser technology that tracks decently on most surfaces, including jeans and chairs. Still, the Magic Mouse doesn’t have the crazy tracking ability that Logitech’s MX mice just introduced—so it can’t track on glass, and it can’t track on glossy surfaces like the 13-inch MacBook.

The Scrolling

The one thing Apple did completely right in the Magic Mouse was the touch scrolling. It’s fluid, natural and works with any amount of fingers on over 75% of the mouse surface (all the way down to the Apple logo). Flicking up and down gets you up and down web pages fast, as long as you have “momentum” turned on in the settings. Turn it off and you get fine-grained 1:1 scrolling—good if you want to slowly navigate through a PDF doc.

You can also click with one finger and scroll with another, letting you highlight blocks of text like you would on a normal scrolling mouse. On the whole, there’s no major piece of scrolling functionality (other than a middle click) that you lose transitioning from a standard scroll wheel to this touch-sensitive solution. You just get the ability to scroll in 360 degrees as a bonus.

The only flaw is that you sometimes activate the left (or right) click when you’re scrolling too emphatically. I suspect this is just something you’ll get used to over time, but it can be annoying when you’re trying to scroll and you navigate somewhere else instead.

Using two finger swiping to navigate web pages, on the other hand, is a bit more awkward. You’ll need to pinch the mouse on the sides with your thumb and fourth/pinkie finger while you’re scrolling, forcing you to make a painful eagle claw all the time.

What it can’t do

As good as the swiping gestures are, they’re limited in what you can actually accomplish with them. You can’t use more than three fingers at a time, because you won’t have enough fingers left to hold the mouse. There’s also no option for touch-sensitive clicking, like in trackpads, something that would have been cool to have just as a bonus. You also can’t tell which side is up just from touch until you click down and feel nothing happen.

So far the Magic Mouse is only compatible with the iMacs that they ship with, but will get broad support soon.

It also can’t manage to stay free from scratches, similar to white MacBooks that also get scratched very easily. But the blemishes don’t interfere with the mouse’s functionality—it’s just painful to watch any new product lose its pristine finish so quickly.

Is this the best mouse apple has ever made?

Yeah, it is. The Magic Mouse is much better than the Mighty Mouse, which people hated, and might actually be good enough that non-Mac users might want to pick it up as well, supposing that they don’t really care about ergonomics. Since it fills the gap between a tiny travel mouse and a full sized desktop mouse, the Magic is in a good position to grab users on both ends.

In Apple, Devices, HTC, Hottest Hardware, Photos, Windows Mobile, iPhone, iPhone OS was inevitable.

With a 3.8-inch WVGA display that completely dominates the entire front-face, and a form-factor that seems to at least have been inspired by the iPhone 3G, the HTC Touch HD was bound to be compared to the iPhone 3G. And, now we have side-by-side picture comparisons to see just how the iPhone 3G measures up against the new list-topper – the HTC Touch HD.

It goes without saying that the 3.8-inch WVGA touchscreen takes the cake as the stand-out feature on the HTC Touch HD. Ironically, the gloriously enormous and high-resolution WVGA display takes away from the fact that the HTC Touch HD sports a 5 megapixel camera – which is a first for HTC. And, with GPS, WiFi, 3G (HSPA) data connectivity, and a spec-sheet that reads like an encyclopedia of smartphone features, the HTC Touch HD is destined to take the iPhone 3G on head-to-head this holiday shopping season.

The HTC Touch HD takes the slim silhouette and sleek lines made popular by the iPhone 3G and bumps up the feature-set to true HTC flagship-standards. The VGA displays on the HTC Touch Diamond and HTC Touch Pro are already brighter and crisper than the iPhone 3G (although, the iPhone 3G display does outperform in direct sunlight), so there’s no doubt that the massive 3.8-inch version of those same VGA touchscreens (stretched out to WVGA proportions) trump the iPhone 3G’s 3.5-inch display.

On the flip-side, we have the iPhone 3G’s more polished and intuitive UI. With multi-touch functionality in tow, the iPhone 3G continues to outshine the competition when it comes to the look, feel, and execution of the user interface – making for a far superior user experience. The iPhone 3G’s strength used to lie in its iPhone OS, the 3.5-inch multi-touch display, and its head-turning style. But, with HTC bringing an even larger 3.8-inch display with WVGA resolutions to the table, the iPhone 3G is relegated to fighting the good fight on UI-merits.

The iPhone 3G is no stranger to high-tech hardware assaults from other smartphone makers, but the Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) handset did manage to keep the upper hand in the “looks” department. But, the HTC Touch HD is just as good looking; has a snazzier, more sensual WVGA display; and also packs a mightier hardware-punch. So, it comes down to a better UI or more advanced hardware. Which will you choose?
