A5 Jailbreak “Absinthe” was installed 1 million times in 3 days

The iPhone 4S and iPad 2 with A5 process was finally granted a jailbreak on Friday from the Chronic Dev Team. They ran statistics and noted that over 1 million people have jailbroken their A5 device in under three days.

This goes to show you that the people WANT more when it comes to Apple devices. The Dev Team also reminds you to STAY ON iOS 5.0.1 if you want to keep the jailbreak.

SiriToggles: Jailbreak tweak allow users to launch apps, enable/disable settings with Siri

SiriToggles the Jailbreak tweak created by iOS developer Hamza Sood allows users to enable and disable various settings like Bluetooth,WiFi,brightness controls,reboot, and much more.

Siri Toggles also allows users of a jailbroken iPhone 4S to launch apps using Siri, something that has been asked for since Siri was introduced.

Siri Toggles will be available for free in Cydia. It has been submitted to Cydia for approval and should be available soon.

How to Jailbreak the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 on Windows

This process is a bit tedious compared to Jailbreaking with a Mac, but as of right now it is the only way to do it if you are a Windows user.

1. Download the redsn0w CLI tool (version 0.4.3) and save it to your computer. Once you’re done, connect your device to your computer.

2. Open your command prompt and make sure you are running as an administrator. (Right click on command prompt and choose “Run as administrator”

3. Navigate to the cinject_0.4.3 folder. You can do this by typing the following commands in command prompt (each line is a separate command) –

cd /

cd cinject_0.4.3

4. Now type the following command in command prompt -

cinject -i payloads/jailbreak.mobileconfig

5. Look at your device, it should prompt you to install a profile. Click “Install”.

6. Now type the following commands into command prompt (again two separate commands) –

cinject -j payloads

cinject -w

7. Now go on your device and navigate to Settings, General, Network, and turn ON your VPN. (Sometimes VPN access shows up right on the main settings page under Wifi.)

8. Your device should give you an error. Hit “OK” and it will reboot on its own.

9. You will see a bunch of errors in command prompt. KEEP your device connected. Once you see something in command prompt that says “Installing Filemover”, slide to unlock your device. Cydia should now be on your home screen.

The Author pod2g teamed up with Chronic Dev Team to release the first untethered A5 jailbreak to date. Absinthe A5 is available for Mac OS x only but a Windows and Linux are coming soon.

You can jailbreak your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 by going to the GreenPoison website on your device and follow the steps.

Device and iOS version combinations that can be jailbroken using Absinthe include the iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0 (9A334) and 5.0.1 (9A405 and 9A406) and all models of the iPad 2 running iOS 5.0.1 (9A405).

Untethered Jailbreak for the iPhone 4S

A video of a jailbroken iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0.1 was recently on YouTube published by Dustin Howett, a member of the Chronic Dev Team. It shows the jailbreak features and confirms the validity by asking Siri a question.

The jailbreak will be available very soon and will be the first for an A5 device running iOS 5.

Siri, which is currently exclusive to the iPhone 4S can now be used on the iPhone 4,iPod Touch 4G and iPhone 3GS. Developer Eric Day has created the jailbreak package called siriOus which can be downloaded through Cydia. SiriOus works just like the Siri on the iPhone 4S except it has advertisements on it. If you are already a part of the iPhone Jailbreak community, this might be something you want to look into.

Verizon stops jailbreak tethering on its network

Forbes is reporting that Verizon is rolling out a system to prevent jailbreak tethering/hotspot apps like MiWi from working in its network. Starting today when you try and use one of these apps, you will be automatically directed to a specially prepared page from Verizon where you will be asked to upgrade to the official tethering/hotspot plan.

AT&T has also confirmed that it will be doing the same thing but has not released the exact date. This is just the beginning of how the networks are teaming together with Apple to try and reduce the amount of iPhones that are jailbroken.

AT&T is forcing Jailbreak hotspot users into their tiered data plan

AT&T is moving forward and removing unlimited plans for the users of jailbroken iPhones that tether or use hotspot features.

I was just informed that as of Thursday August 11th 2011, if you use MyWi or any tethering on the phone or using the phone as a modem, AT&T will automatically change ur unlimited plan to a 2Gb tethering plan for 45 dollars without the customers consent. This is for those who received emails or texts about the use of tethering without an AT&T tethering plan.

An AT&T spokesperson has confirmed this, but not August 11th as a hard cutoff date, saying:

Earlier this year, we began sending letters, emails, and text messages to a small number of smartphone customers who use their devices for tethering but aren’t on our required tethering plan. Our goal here is fairness for all of our customers. (This impacts a only small percentage of our smartphone customer base.)

The letters outline three choices:

1) Stop tethering and keep their current plan (including grandfathered unlimited plan)

2) Proactively call AT&T or visit our stores and move to the required tethering plan

3) Do nothing and we’ll go ahead and add the tethering plan on their behalf — after the dated noted in their customer notification

Time Warner App updated, does not work with jailbreak

The TW Cable app has been update and includes some really nice added features. It also blocks the use of the app on a jailbroken iOS device. So the only way to be able to watch over 100 channels from inside the app and have a remote DVR manager is NOT to have a jailbroken iOS device. I guess this is the future of apps in the Apple App Store, Apple will make it a requirement for them NOT to work with a jailbroken or hacked device.

Dev-team member @comex has been working on a jailbreak for the iPad 2 since its release. One of the jailbreak Beta testers leaked the exploit online. This version of JailbreakMe 3.0 has not been confirmed by the Dev-team yet, and there are reports that it causes Safari to crash.

This jailbreak has not been confirmed by the Dev-team so we are not sure it is safe to do.
