There are tons of new iOS accessories debuted at the CES show, here are a few that were worth talking about.

Griffin StudioConnect and MIDI Connect for iOS:

Griffin announced a new audio interface/dock for the iPad that provides a 1/4 inch audio in, and 3.5mm jack, audio out via RCA. It includes MIDI In and Out and is fully compatible with GarageBand for iOS.

StudioConnect will be available in February at a price $150 and the MIDI Connect will be available in the Spring for $80/

Liquipel Waterproofing Technology:

Waterproof your iPhone without putting it in a case with Liquipel. Liquipel is a coating that is hardly visible to the naked eye and it keeps electronics working even if it is submerged in a bucket of water. D-Link routers and cloud-camera:

D-link announced a couple new routers at CES 2012 and one of the standouts is the (DIR-605L) D-Link Cloud router. This router will provide full access to D-Link’s cloud service through mydlink on the web or with the iOS app.

D-Link Cloud Camera:

This is a 340 degree surveillance solution that will let you access live video feed from the mydlink iOS app on your iPhone or iPad. It allows for pan/tilt control and records 720p video at 30fps. It will be available in April at a price of $150.

Lantronix xPrintServer:

Lantronix’s new xPrintServer is amazingly about the size of an iPhone and will enable iOS devices to print to virtually any printer connected in the network. It will be available in the first quarter of 2012 at a price of $150. You can pre-order here.

What is Liquipel?

Liquipel is a Nano coating that protects your device from accidental water damage.

My device has been Liquipelled; can I take it swimming or surfing?

NO! Just because your device has been further protected does not mean it can be used in this way. It is similar to buying a case for your device and asking to throw it at the ground. It is just common sense to try and take care of your device. If you want to do this you need a specialty bulky case. Liquipel is a preventative coating to help protect from accidental water exposure.

What do you mean when you say “accidental water exposure”?

Accidental water exposure refers to the situations that cause most electronics to become water damaged. Liquipel was designed as a preventative coating to help guard against rain, spills, baby drool and short term submersion such as the sink or toilet (though we hope you never find out). These scenarios comprise most of the water damage that happens to electronics.

If my electronic is accidentally exposed to water after being Liquipelled what do I do?

Do not panic! Please follow the aftercare instructions such as drying the device as much as possible, powering down the unit (if it is not an emergency and you do not need to make a call), removing the battery and battery cover if possible and not restarting until it has dried. Please note not to charge your device for 24 hours until it has dried out.

If my phone is not working what do I do?

Please remain calm and follow the aftercare instructions. The Liquipel coating will prevent corrosion from forming on the device. Devices that have heavy water exposure will take time to dry before the features become fully functional again.

What if my electronic does not turn back on or is broken will Liquipel replace it?

No, Liquipel is not able to tell whether your device was barely exposed to moisture or taken scuba diving and therefore cannot assume any risk if you break your device.

What is the proper way to use my Liquipelled device?

Use it just as you would any normal electronic but with the peace of mind that you can safely use it near bodies of water (edge of pool) or in high humidity places (in bathroom while showering). In addition, wet hands, spilled drinks and talking in the rain are worries of the past.

What is the wrong way to use my Liquipelled device?

Taking your device swimming or needlessly exposing it to water. Situations such as showing off at a bar by putting your phone in your drink while drinking out of it are sure to cause trouble. Furthermore, extreme cold in iced drinks is very bad for LCD (liquid crystal displays) screens. Regardless of being Liquipelled this can break the screen in your device. Purposeful exposure to moisture is done at the customers own risk.

Does the coating cover up my headphone jack and charging port?

The Liquipel process does go into the headphone jacks and charging ports but does not hinder your device in any way. Liquipel is a non conductive coating that allows currents to transfer back and forth when there is a direct connection. What this means is you are able to charge, use headphones and access micro usb or sim cards just as you did before with no problem.

What about mics and speakers?
The liquipel coating is not “heavy” enough to distort your sound quality from your speakers or damage the mic. It does however keep the soft materials most speakers are made of from breaking down when exposed to moisture. Some models (such as iPhone 4) have channels that the speakers play through. It will be hard to hear the music until the water dries from this channel. Liquipel is about preserving your device and all of its functionality.

The original iPad iCade started off as a joke but quickly turned into a reality when it was heavily demanded. It is a small arcade cabinet stand that allows you to put your iPad in it and play video games with a joystick and real buttons simulating a retro arcade game. CES 2012: AR Drone 2.0

Parrot’s new AR Drone 2.0 is debuting at CES 2012 and is quite amazing. The new AR Drone 2.0 is equipped with a 1280×720 resolution camera so you can record in flight.

Perhaps best of all, it’s now even easier to pilot. Before you had to rely on the camera to know which way the AR.Drone was facing, and then send commands from the drone’s perspective. That option is still available for advanced users, but the AR.Drone 2 now senses where you are, so tilting your phone/tablet away from you will send the drone away, and tilting it to your right will make the drone go that way, too. It’s incredibly intuitive.

The AR Drone 2.0 will cost $299 and will be available in the 2nd quarter of 2012.

Make the Apple Logo on the back of your iPhone light up

Have you ever wished that Apple would have designed the iPhone so the back Apple logo would light up like it does on the Macbook? Now you can, for about $42 K.O. Gadget, the maker of the modification, says it can be done at home in less than five minutes. Get the kit here
Basically all you have to do is replace the back panel of your iPhone. The new back panel has a clear Apple logo that allows light to pass through. You also have to install a light strip, take a look at the video below to see how it takes place.

This modification does not add any bulk to the device, because it uses the same type of glass that Apple uses.

Instructions:

Remove the 2 screws flanking the iPhone’s dock connector port

Slide open and remove the rear panel

Remove the 5 screws near the flash

Lift up the power connector of the screen

Position the light panel, then connect and mount it using the 3M sticker (details will be provided after purchase)

Replace the 5 screws near the flash

Slide on the included rear panel with the transparent logo (so that the light is visible through it)

Replace the 2 remaining screws flanking the dock connector port

I had a chance to review the unique and super durable, Case-Mate Barely There case for the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. With its flexible and form-fitting design, this customizable case protects the iPhone without adding any bulk.

I wanted a nice looking wood grain style case to compliment my white iPhone 4. I found a woodgrain pattern that I liked and uploaded it to the zazzle website. They have guidelines to follow as far as the size and DPI in order to achieve the best quality product but they have detailed templates that are very easy to follow to create a great looking case.

This is the image I chose to create my case, you can choose any image on your computer to upload and/or you can add text and show a personal expression right on the back of your iPhone.

This is the finished product, the detail was amazing. The gloss finish resembles a nice piece of furniture.

The volume buttons and silent switch are fully accessible and easy to press, this case is compatible with all iPhone 4/4S. Notice how the image wraps around the entire iPhone to give it a nice look, the image does not necessarily have to be limited to the flat part on the back of the phone.

The right side of the phone, again notice how my uploaded image wrapped all the way around the case to give it a finished look.

The top of the case is completely open to allow for full access to the headphone jack and sleep/awake button

The bottom of the case is also completely open to allow for any style charging cable

The screen of the iPhone is fully exposed, there is no restriction of the usual swiping motion that is used with the iPhone

This particular case, the Barely There from Case-Mate is the one I chose to review. This case offers very limited protection to the iPhone. It is mainly used for protecting the back of the phone. Zazzle offers a variety of cases made for the iPhone that can be customized the exact same way. The process was tremendously easy, and the finished product actually turned out better than I was expecting it to. We have reviewed personalized cases before and none of them turned out as good as the ones from Zazzle. This eliminates you from designing something that would possibly be blurry, oversized etc.

Use your LifeProof™ device while surfing on the beach, athletic swimming or simply doing laps in the pool, your LifeProof™ case will protect your device up to a depth of 6.6 feet (2 meters). The speakerphone works above water to allow you to take hands-free calls.

Music in the Water

When you want to listen to headphones when you are in water (surfing or swimming) simply screw off the ‘bung’ on the top of your LifeProof™ case and deploy waterproof headphones along with the LifeProof™ waterproof headphone adapters (available separately at the LifeProof Store) and you’ll have music in your ears.

Total IP-68 Dust Protection

Built to Military Standards

The LifeProof™ case is designed for a high degree of shock and impact protection and has been tested to Military Specifications MIL-STD-810F-516.5. This means that it has been dropped on all surfaces and edges onto concrete from a height of 2 meters (or 6.6ft).

Designed with You in Mind

We could have designed a rubbery tractor tyre to put around your mobile device but instead we designed something beautiful – a work of engineering art. The LifeProof™ case is made of a tough polycarbonate frame with a scratch-resistant waterproof screen protector and a shock absorbing elastomer. LifeProof also has a shock absorbing rear Polypropylene cover as well as a shock absorbing perimeter O-ring – there are more than seven levels of protection in your LifeProof™ case.

Slim Profile

We wanted LifeProof™ to be as sleek and slim as possible – ‘a cocktail dress made of Kevlar’ some have described it. LifeProof’s™ slim profile allows it to be pocketable and convenient. The depth of the main body of the LifeProof™ case for iPhone 4 is 10.8mm – barely 1.3mm thicker than the iPhone itself and thinner than many standard cases.
